Minutes: December, 18 2007
The meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM with seven members present including two officers, Tom Dorsey and Jim Chaney. Jim Coleman reported that the law suit involving the tee markers had been settled for $ 4000 and the left $4376 to be transferred to the Post 130 account. The money has been transferred and that golf course account was closed. Tom Dorsey reported that a Christmas wreath donated by the Iowa Christmas Tree Association and Becker Florists of Fort Dodge had been placed on the grave of Sgt. J. J. Bonnell. Sgt. Bonnell was a Marine from Fort Dodge who was killed in Iraq late in the summer of 2007. It was also reported that the National American Legion had been selected to administer a $500,000 grant given by the Salute American Heroes foundation. Five hundred dollar grants will be made to service personnel wounded in Iraq or Afghanistan with 30% or more disability . If you know someone who would qualify please let us know.
We were not able to place our American Legion meeting sign on the VFW building. We would be able to display the sign on the VFW property on the day of our meetings. Discussions were held about an alternative place to display the sign.
A discussion of the Kemna Cares Program sponsored by Kemna Auto resulted in a motion by Jim Chaney and seconded by Joe Fleming to donate $200 dollars to the program which sends packages to local service personnel serving Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition the Post 130 American Legion Riders sold 42 Raffle tickets for a total of $151 that were part of the Kemna Cares fund raising. It should be noted the Joe Fleming through his company, Eagle manufacturing also donated $200 to Kemna Cares.
Lastly it was reported that Tom Payne of Marvin Gardens in Fort Dodge has donated a $25 gift certificate to be drawn for at our next meeting. Joe Fleming won the $35 gas card at December meeting
